The castle of La Yedra is also known as the castle of the Four Corners. This fortress guaranteed security and protection to the city of Cazorla.

 

History of the Castillo de la Yedra

Origin

From roman times,Cazorla has been continually populated. Proof of this are the archaeological remainsfound in the city. Later, during the Muslim period, Cazorla was a small farmhouse of little importance.

Regain

Ferdinand III he was aware of the important role that this area could play in stopping a possible advance by Arab troops. For this reason, he ordered the powerful Archbishop Ximénez de Rada to occupy this territory.

The archbishop led Toledo troops and carried out the conquest of a large territory, which ranged from Quesada to Hinojares. In this way they gotintroduce a wedge in a territory of great importance for the Castilian reconquest of al-Andalus.

The castle of this city thus became the seat of the capital of theOvertaking of Cazorla. The king gave the adelantado the mission of planning and carrying out the assault on a place of great value to the Arab enemy, but which in turn was very well protected, Baza.

The castle
