History of the Cyclopean Walls

Origin

Function

The wall isIt is located in the urban area of ​​Ibros at one of its lowest levels. Its function was military defense and it was strategically located, since its purpose was to defend the most vulnerable areas and those close to watercourses.

Although it is currently quite deteriorated and with complicated restoration possibilities, it is an extremely valuable element, both for its historical value and for its extremely interesting construction method.

Architecture

The wall is made up of large overlapping sandstone stones. Currently they conserve two parts of the wall at an angle of 90 degrees. The width of the construction is approximately two meters in the mostnarrow and up to six meters in the widest. Its length almost reaches fifteen meters on its longest side, while the height oscillates between three and four meters.

The difference in height of the wall is produced by the irregular terrain, which forced the different parts of the wall to be equal. Part of the height is added by the large rock that serves as the base of the wall.
